Montana Ranch Owner Pledges $500,000 Toward New Madison Valley Hospital
“Project Giveback” Aims to Match Donations and Get Community Involved

Cameron, Mont., (August 16, 2006) Sun West Ranch developers Ted and Heidi Gildred have recently announced a $500,000 donation to the Madison Valley Hospital and Clinic (MVH&C) in an effort entitled “Project Give Back.” The Gildreds have pledged an initial $100,000 donation to the MVH&C which will then be matched by a $100,000 fundraising effort throughout the community. For every $100,000 raised by the community and every Sun West Ranch home site sold, The Gildred family will match the $100,000 donation, up to a total of $500,000. If the initial $1 million effort of “Project Giveback” proves successful, the Gildreds will consider a second matching gift of $500,000, thereby helping raise a total of $2 million for the new hospital building fund.

“Project Giveback” began as part of an effort to raise a total of $8.5 million to build a new top-notch medical facility in Ennis. The new facility will be approximately 30,000 square feet in size and built on two levels. The hospital, laboratory, radiology, administration, and emergency rooms will be on the upper level. The clinic, physical therapy, visiting specialist treatment rooms, board and community rooms, kitchen, and maintenance will be on the lower level. The new facility will be linked to other medical facilities through tele-medicine networks. This means that an X-ray, CT, blood draw, or other type of diagnostic test can be completed in Ennis while the reading and analysis of the test can be completed by specialists in other medical facilities anywhere in the world. The new MVH&C is slated to be complete in 2008.

“While the opportunity to build a new medical facility is a massive undertaking, it is also an exciting one. It is rare to be a part of something so important for the community right from the ground up,” said Sam Korsmoe, executive director of the Madison County Economic Development Council and the project manager of the capital campaign for the new MVH&C. “We are so pleased to have the Gildreds come forth with Project Giveback. It is a great way to get the community involved in the fundraising effort.”

The Gildreds will present the hospital staff with the first $100,000 donation at a Project Giveback presentation on Thursday, August 17 at 10 a.m. at the MVH&C in Ennis. In an earlier event to announce Project Giveback, the existing home owners of Sun West Ranch pledged $35,000 to the building project. According to Korsmoe, more events to raise matching funds are being planned, and donations are arriving on a weekly basis.

“Medical care in a community should be treated like all other types of infrastructure such as clean drinking water and safe roads. An enhanced medical treatment facility with technologies such as tele-medicine will offer the medical staff more opportunity to treat and diagnose residents of the Madison Valley and the outlying areas,” said Ted Gildred. “This new hospital is an investment in our community that will serve for generations to come.”

The Madison Valley hospital district is roughly the same size as the state of Delaware. It encompasses the entire eastern half of Madison County. In terms of population, it is one of the fastest growing regions of Montana. In addition to a year-round population of several thousand, the Madison Valley attracts more than 700,000 visitors and tourists every year. For visitors and residents alike, the new MVH&C will provide a whole new range of quality health care services.

About Madison Valley Hospital & Clinic
The Madison Valley Hospital opened in the summer of 1950. Over the following six decades, it expanded in size and services a total of seven times. The most recent expansion took place in July 2006 with the inclusion of a Computerized Tomography (CT) extension. More commonly known as a cat scan, the new CT will greatly improve the medical teams’ ability to diagnose patients locally rather than having to send them to Bozeman or Butte for medical care. The MVH&C is a Critical Access Hospital (CAH). This is a Medicare designation for rural hospitals with less than 25 beds and at least 35 miles from an alternative medical facility. Medicare provides cost-based reimbursements to CAH facilities which helps them to remain solvent. The exceptional value of Medicare’s program is when CAH borrows capital for renovations or facility replacements. Through its reimbursement program, Medicare will pay more than one-half of a loan for a new CAH facility. For this reason, the MVH&C Board of Directors is aggressively pursuing all financial options, including issuance of $6 million in debt, to build the new MVH&C.
